If you’ve got old oil-based paint, pesticides, fertilizers, used motor oil or other hazardous items tucked away in your garage or shed, now is the time to act. Teton County’s Household Hazardous Waste collection season ends on Oct. 21.

Appointments are required, and they fill quickly — especially as fall approaches. The season’s remaining collection days are: Sept. 9, 16 and 23, and Oct. 7, 16 and 21.

Teton County’s HHW program helps keep toxic and flammable materials out of the landfill, river and environment. HHW season begins in April each year, and is available to both residents and businesses, with disposal costs partially subsidized by The Brinson Foundation, Teton Conservation District and Teton County Weed and Pest District. ISWR serves about 420 customers and collects upwards of 4,000 gallons of HHW a season.

What You Can Bring

Teton County’s HHW facility accepts a wide range of common household substances, including:

  • Oil-based paints and stains (note that water-based paints can be dried with kitty litter and thrown away once dry),
  • Pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers,
  • Automotive fluids like antifreeze and used motor oil,
  • Flammables, solvents, turpentine, bleaches, poisons, cleaners and more.

Appointments can be made online at TetonCountyWY.gov/HHW. The facility is located behind the Recycling Center at 3270 S. Adams Canyon Road.
