Fall Clean Up returns Oct. 31 – Nov. 7

Fall Clean Up returns Oct. 31 – Nov. 7

Fall yard work is here, and so are two free ways to keep those leaves, branches and other yard debris out of the landfill and put to good use. The Town of Jackson and Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling invite residents to take part in Fall Clean Up, beginning Saturday, Oct. 31.

Residents can drop off clean residential yard waste for local composting at:

  • Teton County Trash Transfer Station, Saturday, Oct. 31, through Saturday, Nov. 7:  The first 500 pounds per household are free during regular operating hours, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Due to popular demand, this year’s schedule includes two Saturdays.
  • Jackson Rodeo Grounds, Friday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.:  Free residential yard-waste collection is available for this one day only. Please drop off materials during event hours; no trash or pet waste, please.

Leaves, grass clippings, branches and clean Halloween pumpkins are welcome. Please remove candles and decorations from jack-o’-lanterns and leave painted pumpkins out of the compost to avoid contamination in the finished product. Yard waste brought in bags should be emptied into the appropriate piles.

“Fall Clean Up makes it easy to prep your yard for winter while turning those materials into compost here in the valley instead of throwing them away with trash,” said Cindy Harger, Teton County waste diversion outreach specialist.

Free compostable lawn bags will be available beginning Monday, Oct. 26, while supplies last, at Jackson Town Hall, Jackson Public Works and the Teton County Recycling Center. Bags are not required to participate. Black plastic bags are also recyclable with stretchy “plastic film.”

After Clean Up week is over, free pumpkin collection will continue at the Recycling Center during office hours for the full month of November. Yard waste is taken year-round at the Trash Transfer Station for a minimum of $10 for a small load, and about 5 cents a pound for larger loads.

Teton County and the Town of Jackson extend their appreciation to businesses that generously donate their time and services to make this event possible, including Arbor Works Organics, New Waste Removal, Teton Trash Removal, Westbank Sanitation, Town and County public works departments, and ISWR staff, Harger said.
